About the Aylmer Area Community Band

The Aylmer Area Community Band (AACB) is a concert band with a true community feel. Our members range in age as well as in experience and ability, but we come together and play for the same love of music.

AACB History

The idea of a community band was conceived by the Aylmer Millennium Committee and with funds from the Aylmer Area Community Foundation the AACB was born in May 1999.
Our first conductor was Dave Dykeman, who was the head of the Music Department at East Elgin Secondary School. During his tenure, Dave led the band at many concerts, community & school events with a highlight being the AACB on duty in 2008 to welcome Prince Edward’s visit to the Ontario Police College.
Beginning in September 2015, the AACB is now conducted by Sherry Wood, a music teacher at Wortley Road Public School in London. Sherry is an Aylmer girl at heart, having grown up here, and where her love for music was cultivated. She was actually a student of Dave’s at EESS and joined the AACB with her clarinet in 2001.

AACB Activities

The AACB practices on Monday nights at East Elgin Secondary School from September to May and during our season we have many opportunities to share our music with the community. This includes Remembrance Day ceremonies, Christmas carol sings, and visits to area Senior’s homes. Every year we also participate in the St. Thomas Rotary Music Festival. Our biggest events are our concerts where twice a year we perform with our sister group, the Aylmer Area Community Choir (AACC), in a theme concert which we organize together. Here, we like to include other local musicians to give them an opportunity to showcase their talents.
The AACB always welcomes new members and encourages woodwind and brass musicians to come out and join us for a rehearsal. For further information about our practice time and location, membership fees or upcoming concert information, please call Cindy at 519-773-5965. You can also check out our Facebook page here:
