Job Description:
The Corporation of the Town of Aylmer is currently accepting applications for Auxiliary Volunteer Firefighters.
The Aylmer Fire Department provides Fire & Emergency Response, Public Education and Inspection Services from its station at 323 John St. South, Aylmer. The Department is staffed by 2 full-time employees and twenty-six professional volunteer firefighters. Serving a population of approximately 8,000 residents, the department responds to an average of 100 emergency calls each year. These include fires, rescues, automatic alarms, motor vehicle accidents and medical assistance calls.
A volunteer auxiliary firefighter is a dedicated individual interested in serving their community and willing to dedicate the time necessary to train and respond to emergencies.
Ideal candidates would reside and work within a reasonable distance to the Town of Aylmer, plus have daytime availability, or have permission from their employer to attend to daytime calls. A Class D-Z driver’s license, current First Aid/CPR certificates and NFPA Firefighter 1001 and 1002 would be considered assets.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements to Become an Auxiliary Volunteer Firefighter:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must pass a medical exam and provide a doctor’s note stating you are fit to perform duties required of the Fire Service
- Must provide Vulnerable Record Police Check
- Must complete Employer Waiver
- Must attend and pass pre-employment interviews and physical testing
- Must provide a 3-year driver’s abstract
