Audubon Cooperative Society

Living in Aylmer Menu

Rotary Park is the first property in Ontario to be designated through the Audubon Society and the only corporation and municipal corporation in Canada. Rotary Park, is the 46th in the world to obtain certification. Rotary Park has achieved this designation by demonstrating a high degree of environmental quality in five different areas: Environmental Planning, Outreach and Education, Waste Management, Resource Conservation, and Wildlife Habitat Management.

Audubon International is a not-for-profit environmental organization dedicated to improving the quality of life and the environment. We do this by helping people become actively involved in good environmental stewardship and sustainable resource management where they live, work, and play.

Environmental stewardship-protecting our water, wildlife, and natural resources – must take place with active cooperation between citizens, governments, businesses, and the environmental community.

Audubon International is helping to make this happen one person at a time!

Aylmer’s own rotary park is designated a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary!

What is a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary?

The Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program (ACSP) is an award winning education and certification program that helps protect the environment. The ACSP helps enhance the valuable natural areas and wildlife habitats that parks provide.

By implementing and documenting a full complement of environmental management practices, a park earns designation as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. Some areas addressed by the ACSP are:

  • Environmental planning
  • Wildlife and habitat management
  • Chemical use, reduction, and safety
  • Water conservation
  • Water quality management
  • Outreach and education
  • Receiving certification demonstrates leadership as a steward of the environment and publicly recognizes and rewards environmental achievements.

The ACSP, administered by Audubon International, helps landowners preserve and enhance the environmental quality of their properties. Audubon International is the only program in the world that provides an Environmental Seal of Accomplishment for golf courses.

Certified Audubon Properties contribute to the conservation of resources and the protection of native plants and wildlife.
