Drowning Prevention Week July 21-27, 2024

WHEREAS, drowning is a preventable tragedy that claims the lives of countless individuals each year, causing immense grief and loss within our communities; and,

WHEREAS, it is our collective responsibility to raise awareness about the importance of drowning prevention, educate the public about water safety, and promote measures that can save lives and protect our community members; and,

WHEREAS, drowning incidents can be avoided through increased knowledge and understanding of water safety practices, such as swimming lessons, proper supervision, and the use of life-saving devices; and,

WHEREAS, Drowning Prevention Awareness serves as a crucial opportunity to unite our efforts, highlight the importance of water safety, and empower individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to prevent drowning incidents; and,

WHEREAS, we acknowledge the invaluable work of lifeguards, swimming instructors, water safety organizations, community groups, and volunteers who tirelessly dedicate themselves to educating the public on drowning prevention and saving lives.

NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor Jack Couckuyt, on behalf of the Town of Aylmer Council, do hereby proclaim July 21-27, as “Aylmer Drowning Prevention Week.”

A flag raising ceremony will take place at Aylmer Town Hall 46 Talbot Street West on Friday July 19th at 11 a.m.
