Finance Committee Endorses 2025 Budget, Supporting Key Infrastructure Projects and Sustainable Growth
The Town of Aylmer’s Finance Committee has approved the 2025 Capital Budget and endorsed the Operating Budget, marking significant progress for the Town’s infrastructure and services. The finalized budget includes funding for major projects aimed at enhancing Aylmer’s infrastructure, while prioritizing fiscal responsibility and sustainable growth for the community.
Deputy Mayor Pete Barbour, Chair of the Finance Committee, expressed pride in the committee’s efforts, stating, “This budget reflects Council’s careful review of each project to make sure we’re using Aylmer’s resources wisely. We’ve worked hard to find a good balance—taking care of the town’s needs while keeping costs fair for residents. I’m proud of the work we’ve done here.”
Among the major capital projects approved are both phases of the Elk Street Reconstruction, totaling approximately $8.1 million. This project will be funded primarily through reserves accumulated from the Federal Canada Community-Building Fund. Additionally, Council has approved the Lagoon Optimization Project, a $4.5 million investment supported largely by the Provincial Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund (HEWSF). These projects represent Council’s commitment to providing long-term benefits for the residents of Aylmer.
For 2025, the estimated lower-tier municipal levy impact for an average household in Aylmer is projected to be approximately 3.5%. This estimate is subject to any adjustments in MPAC assessment values and the final approval of draft Board Budgets. Additionally, the Ontario government has increased funding for the Town of Aylmer through the Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund (OMPF) by $ 158,500, which has helped to reduce the levy impact for residents. Council looks forward to bringing the community final details on the levy impact in the near future.
Mayor Jack Couckuyt thanked the Town’s provincial and federal partners for their significant contributions and extended appreciation to both Town staff and the community for their input and collaboration, stating, “Our government partners have been such a strong support, allowing Aylmer to move ahead with projects that really make a difference for our community. This budget came together through a true team effort, and I’m so grateful for our staff’s hard work and the community’s valuable input. Together, we’re shaping a bright future for Aylmer.”
