Council Information Release
At their meeting of July 12, 2023 meeting, the Town of Aylmer Council passed the following motion regarding the subject noted above:
That Report CAO 37-23 respecting Legal Advice related to the EECC be received for information;
WHEREAS the Town of Aylmer and Township of Malahide have been partners in the legal ownership and subsequent operation of the East Elgin Community Complex since March of 2003;
AND WHEREAS there has been significant discussion respecting governance and operation, including multiple consultant reports and public recommendations;
AND WHEREAS the most recent governance discussions initiated in 2023 have led to the creation of the EECC Ad Hoc Governance Review Committee which directed the CAO’s of Aylmer and Malahide to each seek a legal opinions for transparent sharing;
AND WHEREAS the Town of Aylmer recognizes that the EECC is a public facility whose operations and governance represent areas of overwhelming public interest.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Council of the Town of Aylmer waive solicitor-client privilege upon the June 15, 2023 legal review entitled “Review of Governance Issues of the East Elgin Community Complex and Recommendations for Improvement” with noted redactions; and
That the Town of Aylmer Council direct staff to post the document once in a manner that is available to the public following completion of redactions.
