Extended Producer Responsibility

The Province of Ontario introduced the Waste-Free Ontario Act to create a new recycling system called Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR). This means the companies that make and sell packaging and paper products are now responsible for collecting and recycling those materials after they are used.

To manage this system, the Province has appointed Circular Materials Ontario, a non-profit organization representing producers, to oversee curbside recycling collection and processing across Ontario.

What Does this Mean for Aylmer?

For most residents, recycling collection will continue as usual:

  • Your recycling collection days and accepted materials will remain the same.
  • Recycling will still be picked up at the curb.
  • Customer service requests related to recycling collection will now be handled by Miller Waste Systems instead of the Town of Aylmer.
