Expanded Office Hours at Townhall During Trial of Compressed Work Week
Starting September 13, 2021, Town Hall will be open to the public for an additional five hours each week. The new operating hours will be from 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday. The additional hour of service per day results from the Town’s move to a compressed work week. It should be noted that staff will continue to work the same number of hours each week, with the hours being compressed into four days rather than five.
The Council of the Town of Aylmer approved a compressed work week trial period beginning September 13, 2021 to July 2022. The main objective of this trial is to expand the level of customer service and staff availability at no additional cost to the municipality, with additional benefits including the opportunity to improve staff recruitment and retention, enhanced succession planning and promotion of cross training among staff. A compressed workweek has been successfully implemented by several municipalities, including the Township of Zorra and Municipality of Guysborough.
The COVID-19 pandemic has pushed municipalities to consider new approaches to human resource management and flexible work arrangements. Throughout the development of the formal work plan and guiding HR Policy, staff leveraged the experiences of comparable municipalities and other comparable organizations.
