MENTAL HEALTH WEEK – May 1 to 5, 2023

WHEREAS, mental health is an essential part of everyone’s health and well-being; and

WHEREAS, Mental Health Week has been hosted by the Canadian Mental Health Association in communities across Canada for over 70 years; and

WHEREAS, Canadian Mental Health Association Thames Valley Addiction and Mental Health Services provides mental health and addiction education, supports, and services within Aylmer and Elgin County; and

WHEREAS, all people in Canada need to promote, protect, and nurture their mental health; and

WHEREAS, 1 in 5 Canadians experience a mental illness or mental health issue, 5 in 5 of us – that’s all people – have mental health.

NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor Jack Couckuyt, on behalf of the Town of Aylmer Council, do hereby proclaim May 1 to 5, 2023, as “Mental Health Week” in the Town of Aylmer.

Flag Raising:

The flag raising ceremony is scheduled for Monday May 1st at 11:00am at Aylmer Town Hall.

VICTIMS & SURVIVORS OF CRIME WEEK – May 14 to 20, 2023

WHEREAS, each year Victims and Survivors of Crime Week is recognized to raise awareness of services and supports for persons harmed by crime and violence. This year’s theme is “The Power of Collaboration.”

WHEREAS, this week seeks to offer a greater understanding of victim issues and recognizes the tireless efforts of frontline victim services staff, advocates and professionals working in the criminal justice system who support and offer information and assistance to survivors.

WHEREAS, support for victims is imperative in an effort to help them through challenging and traumatic experiences and helps foster feelings of resilience and courage. Community support, advocacy and public demonstrations of support help promote the community’s capacity for compassion and provides the opportunity for open dialogue in understanding the impact of crime and violence on society.

WHEREAS, the Town of Aylmer is committed to community safety and the wellbeing of its residents.

NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor Jack Couckuyt, on behalf of the Town of Aylmer Council, do hereby proclaim May 14 to May 20, 2023, as “Victims and Survivors of Crime Week” in the Town of Aylmer.

Flag Raising:

The flag raising ceremony is scheduled for Monday May 15th at 1:00pm at Aylmer Town Hall.

VICTORIAN ORDER OF NURSES (VON) WEEK – May 21-27, 2023

WHEREAS, the Victorian Order of Nurses for Canada is a charitable community-based health care organization that has addressed community health and social needs for 125 years.

WHEREAS, VON Middlesex-Elgin (www.vonme.ca) nurses, home support workers, community service coordinators and many other staff and volunteers have been caring for the lives and well-being of residents of the Town of Aylmer; and VON’s nursing, health promotion and support services make a contribution to the health care system in Ontario.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that I, Jack Couckuyt, Mayor of the Town of Aylmer hereby proclaim May 21-27, 2022 as VON Week here in the Town of Aylmer.

The Town of Aylmer encourages all residents to support VON and our community by sharing positive virtual messages and financially supporting VON Middlesex-Elgin’s charitable programs.
