Mental Health Week – May 6-12, 2024
WHEREAS mental health is an essential part of everyone’s health and well-being; and,
WHEREAS, Mental Health Week has been hosted by the Canadian Mental Health Association in communities across Canada for over 70 years; and,
WHEREAS, Canadian Mental Health Association Thames Valley Addiction and Mental Health Services provides mental health and addiction education, supports, and services within Aylmer and Elgin County; and,
WHEREAS, all people in Canada need to promote, protect, and nurture their mental health; and,
WHEREAS, 1 in 5 Canadians experience a mental illness or mental health issue, 5 in 5 of us – that’s all people – have mental health.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor Jack Couckuyt, on behalf of the Town of Aylmer Council, do hereby proclaim May 6-12, 2024 as “Mental Health Week” in the Town of Aylmer.
Mental Health Week – Flag Raising Ceremony – Monday May 6th, 2024 11:00 a.m.
A flag raising ceremony in honour of Mental Health Week will take place at Town Hall (46 Talbot Street West Aylmer, ON) at 11:00 a.m. on Monday May 6th. The CMHA flag will be flown at Town Hall for the week.
Victims and Survivors of Crime Week – May 12-18, 2024
WHEREAS, when a crime occurs, it doesn’t affect just one person, but their family members and the entire community; and
WHEREAS, victims and survivors of crime and their families deserve support from their community; and
WHEREAS, many victim service providers, police officers, and professionals working in the criminal justice system provide assistance to victims and survivors of crime and their families; and
WHEREAS, victims and survivors of crime need to know that they have a voice in our criminal justice system and that there are laws in place to help them; and
WHEREAS, Victims and Survivors of Crime Week, May 12 to May 18, 2024 offers an opportunity to raise awareness about victim issues, and about the services and laws in place to help victims, survivors and their families; and
WHEREAS, the theme for Victims and Survivors of Crime Week – The Power of Collaboration – will help to promote greater understanding of victim issues; and
WHEREAS, an increased awareness of issues faced by victims and survivors of crime will encourage citizens to discuss the impact of crime; and
WHEREAS, public demonstrations of support for victims and survivors of crime help to build a community’s capacity for compassion to assist them and their families and the community as a whole; and
WHEREAS, addressing victim and survivor issues requires the support and dedication of the whole community; and
WHEREAS, the support of Town of Aylmer will encourage a greater number of citizens to participate in Victims and Survivors of Crime Week.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor Jack Couckuyt, on behalf of the Town of Aylmer Council, do hereby proclaim May 12 to May 18, 2024, as “Victims and Survivors of Crime Week” in the Town of Aylmer.
Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) Week – May 19-25, 2024
WHEREAS, the Victorian Order of Nurses for Canada is a charitable community-based health care organization that has addressed community health and social needs for 125 years.
WHEREAS, VON Middlesex-Elgin (www.vonme.ca) nurses, home support workers, community service coordinators and many other staff and volunteers have been caring for the lives and well-being of residents of the Town of Aylmer; and VON’s nursing, health promotion and support services make a contribution to the health care system in Ontario.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that I, Jack Couckuyt, Mayor of the Town of Aylmer hereby proclaim May 19-25, 2024 as VON Week here in the Town of Aylmer.
The Town of Aylmer encourages all residents to support VON and our community by sharing positive virtual messages and financially supporting VON Middlesex-Elgin’s charitable programs.
