September 12-17, 2021 – National Forest Week

WHEREAS, covering 66% of the province and 71.1 millions hectares, Ontario’s forests are an indispensable source of ecological, cultural, health, social and economic benefits.

WHEREAS its forests are also located on the traditional territory of diverse Indigenous nations and provide nourishment and cultural value to these groups.

WHEREAS Aylmer’s greenspaces and tree cover offer valuable recreation to its residents.

WHEREAS its urban forest is a center for physical, mental, social and community wellbeing.

WHEREAS its tree cover also contributes essential ecological services for the town such as pollution reduction, stormwater retention, cooling and energy savings.

WHEREAS National Forest Week is an annual one-week campaign which recognizes its critical contribution to Canada and its people. This year, National Forest Week will be celebrated across the country by individuals and organizations with the theme of “Our Forests – Continually Giving” and will encourage Canadians to reflect on the role of forests and trees within their everyday lives.

NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor Mary French, on behalf of the Town of Aylmer Council, do hereby proclaim September 12-18, as “National Forest Week” in the Town of Aylmer.

September 18-25, 2021 – Bullying Elimination Week

WHEREAS, The Town of Aylmer recognizes the importance of safe precautionary measures inside and outside of the school system in order to ensure that all of the Aylmer residents are provided with safe and secure environments;

WHEREAS, It is vital that we fully understand that bullying is a serious international dilemma which must be addressed as soon humanly possible to diminish and\or eliminate the amount of bullying that continues to take place in the Alymer area;

WHEREAS “Bullying Elimination Week” acknowledges all efforts to decrease the amount of bullying that continues to take place inside and outside of Aylmer area.

NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor Mary French, on behalf of the Town of Aylmer Council, do hereby proclaim September 19th-25th, 2021, as “Bullying Elimination Week” in the Town of Aylmer.

September 26-October 1, 2021 – Rail Safety Week

WHEREAS, Rail Safety Week is to be held across Canada from September 26 to October 1, 2021;

WHEREAS, it is in the public’s interest to raise citizens’ awareness of the dangers of ignoring safety warnings at level crossings and trespassing on rail property to reduce avoidable deaths, injuries and damage caused by incidents involving trains and citizens;

WHEREAS, Operation Lifesaver is a public/private partnership whose aim is to work with the public, rail industry, governments, police services, media and others to raise rail safety awareness;

WHEREAS, CN has requested the Town of Aylmer Council adopt this resolution in support of its ongoing efforts to raise awareness, save lives and prevent injuries in communities, including our municipality;

NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor Mary French, on behalf of the Town of Aylmer Council, do hereby proclaim September 26 to October 1, 2021, as “Rail Safety Week” in the Town of Aylmer.
