Town of Aylmer Awarded $25,000 Grant to Expand Free Seniors Programming

August 6, 2025

Aylmer, Ontario – The Town of Aylmer will be hosting an announcement event on August 13, 2025 at 9:30 a.m. at Palmer Park to celebrate the award of $25,000 from the Government of Ontario through the 2025-2026 Seniors Community Grant Program.

This funding will support Active Living Aylmer, a new initiative designed to promote active living, reduce isolation, and increase community connection among older adults aged 55+. The program builds on the success of last year’s grant-funded initiatives and aligns with Aylmer’s Parks and Recreation Master Plan, which identified a gap in programming for older residents.

The Active Living Aylmer project will run from September 2025 through March 2026, and includes: twice weekly pop-up Seniors Centres at Old Town Hall and the East Elgin Community Complex (EECC), weekly dance fitness classes, a creative canvas art program and a rotating series of free educational workshops, including:

  • Treasure Your Bones
    • Elder Abuse Awareness
    • Caregiver Support
    • Community Volunteering
    • Introduction to Square Dancing

All programming will be offered free of charge to participants, with an expected reach of up to 500 older adults.

“This initiative is a direct investment in the well-being of older adults in our community,” says Mayor Jack Couckuyt. “We are proud to offer opportunities that encourage active lifestyles, social engagement, and lifelong learning.”

The Government of Ontario’s Seniors Community Grant Program offers support for local, not-for-profit community groups and organizations to deliver programs and learning opportunities for Ontarians aged 55+. The funding allows community groups across the province to offer a wide variety of activities that help seniors to live independently, ensure their safety and security, connect them to their community, avoid isolation, and achieve greater financial security and social connections.
