Town of Aylmer awarded $57,859.84 EASE Grant to Install Accessible Trailside Benches & Picnic Tables in Aylmer Parks

March 3, 2026

Aylmer, Ontario – The Ontario Government, through the Enhancing Access to Spaces for Everyone (EASE) Grant 2025-2026, has awarded the Town of Aylmer $57,859.84 to support the purchase and installation of accessible trailside benches and picnic tables in several Aylmer Parks.

The project, which will see the installation of accessible benches and picnic tables with firm, level surfacing along the trail network linking the Town’s key parks and green spaces, is intended to address deficiencies identified in the Town of Aylmer’s Parks & Recreation Master Plan.

By providing accessible rest and gathering areas, the project will support increased outdoor use by older adults, people with disabilities, families with young children, and others who benefit from barrier-free amenities. The overall aims of the project are to create a more inclusive outdoor environment, promote physical activity and mental wellness, and offer equitable access to public amenities.

“This funding is an important investment in our community’s health and well-being. Our parks are enjoyed by residents of all ages, from families and youth to seniors. The addition of accessible trailside benches and picnic tables will help ensure our parks remain welcoming, inclusive spaces where everyone — including those who may face barriers to access — can rest, gather, and enjoy Aylmer’s beautiful parks and trail system. On behalf of Aylmer Town Council, I thank the Government of Ontario for this support.” – Town of Aylmer Mayor Jack Couckuyt

“Accessible benches and picnic tables may seem like small additions, but they make a real difference in our parks. They give seniors, people with disabilities, and families with young children a place to rest, gather, and enjoy Aylmer’s trails safely and comfortably. I’m proud that this investment helps make our parks more welcoming and inclusive, while supporting activity, connection, and the well-being of our community.” – Rob Flack, MPP Elgin-Middlesex-London

“Ensuring Ontario’s public spaces are accessible and welcoming for everyone is a priority for our government,” said Raymond Cho, Minister for Seniors and Accessibility.  “Investments like the EASE Grant help communities create environments where older adults and people with disabilities can participate fully in community life. We are pleased to support the Town of Aylmer in its efforts to improve accessibility in local parks and enhance opportunities for recreation, connection, and well‑being.” – Minister Raymond Cho

The Government of Ontario’s Enhancing Access to Spaces for Everyone (EASE) Grant offers funding for small capital projects aimed at enhancing the quality of life for people with disabilities and older adults by supporting them to live active, healthy, safe, and socially connected lives. The EASE Grant provides funding to eligible applicants with projects intended to improve the accessibility of Ontario’s community outdoor spaces and built environments.
