Job Description:

The Corporation of the Town of Aylmer is currently accepting applications for a qualified, Volunteer Firefighter.

The Aylmer Fire Department provides Fire & Emergency Response, Public Education and Inspection Services from its station at 323 John St. South, Aylmer. Serving a population of approximately 8,000 residents, the department responds to an average of 130 emergency calls each year. These include fires, rescues, automatic alarms, motor vehicle accidents and medical assistance calls.

A volunteer firefighter is a dedicated individual interested in serving their community and willing to dedicate the time necessary to train and respond to emergencies. Ideal candidates reside and work within a reasonable distance to the Town of Aylmer, plus have daytime availability, or have permission from their employer to attend to daytime calls. A Class D-Z driver’s license, current First Aid/CPR certificates and NFPA Firefighter 1001 and 1002 are required.

Qualifications:

  • NFPA Firefighter 1001 & 1002 qualifications
  • Class D-Z driver’s license (or willing to acquire in reasonable time frame)
  • Valid First Aid/CPR certificates
  • One year of firefighting experience within a municipal fire department
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must pass a medical exam and provide a doctor’s note stating you are fit to perform duties required of the Fire Service.
  • Must provide Vulnerable Sector Police Check.
  • Must complete Employer Waiver.
  • Must attend and pass pre-employment interviews and physical testing.
  • Must provide a 3-year driver’s abstract.
