Update – Boil Water Advisory Lifted

Southwestern Public Health has lifted the Boil Water Advisory for the Town of Aylmer, effective immediately. Water tests have confirmed that the water is safe for consumption and meets all drinking water standards.

What Should Residents Do Now?

  • Run cold water faucets for 1 minute before using the water.
  • Run drinking fountains for 1 minute before using the water.
  • Run water softeners through a regeneration cycle.
  • Drain and refill hot water heaters set below 45°C (normal setting is 60°C).

Update – December 22, 2024 – 1:30PM

The Town of Aylmer is notifying residents that the water main break has been fixed and the water conservation request is being lifted. The boil water advisory remains in effect and will remain in effect for the coming days. A frequently asked questions document is now available. Key points include:

  1. Repairs on the water main are complete. The water conservation request is lifted.
  2. The boil water advisory remains in effect and is targeted for lifting as soon as possible per regulations (details in the FAQs)
  3. Residents may see staff around the break site in the next week as additional improvement work is being considered. Water services are not anticipated to be impacted.
  4. Residents can anticipate a scheduled update on December 24th by the evening.

UPDATE: December 22, 2024 – 7:15AM

Southwestern Public Health has issued a Boil Water Advisory for some residents in the Town of Aylmer due to a water main break. The advisory is in effect until further notice. The Advisory impacts residents in the area of: most roads to the North of Talbot St, West to Pierce Ave, and East to Victoria St North. The following streets are affected by this Boil Water Advisory:

Pierce Ave, Oak St, McGregor Ave, Davis Ave, Elm St, Lawrence Cres, Forest St, Spruce St East and West, Parkview Heights, Maple St East and West, Myrtle St, Cedar St, Walnut St East and West, Chestnut St East and West, Murray St, Queen St North, Water St, Elgin St, North of Talbot St, Victoria St North, Gerard St, Linden St, Warren St, North St, William St and John St North.

The reason for the advisory is that the Medical Officer of Health has been advised that there has been a watermain break incident which could potentially affect the safety of the water.

What Does This Mean? The Acting Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Joyce Lock, has advised users of the Town of Aylmer Municipal Drinking Water in the areas above to bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute prior to using it for domestic purposes, such as drinking, making infant formula and juice, brushing teeth, washing raw foods, and making ice.

The Town request for residents to conserve water remains in effect.

The Town of Aylmer is notifying residents of a water main break near the intersection of Parkview Heights and Chestnut Street West. The break was identified last night and Town staff have been actively working to repair the issue.

Water Conservation Request

While repairs are underway, residents are asked to conserve water whenever possible. Examples include postponing laundry, limiting dishwasher use, reducing shower times, and avoiding unnecessary water use. We kindly request that you alert family members and neighbors to the Town’s request for water conservation.

Repairs are ongoing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updates from the Town in case further precautions are required.

Update December 21, 2024 – 7:35pm: As repairs progress, some residents may experience a temporary loss of water service. We understand this may cause inconvenience, and we appreciate your patience.

For residents affected by loss of water service, when water returns there may be some discolouration. As a precaution after the conservation request is lifted, run taps for several minutes until water runs clear. Do not use discolored water for drinking, cooking, or bathing.

Update December 21, 2024 – 5:30pm: Town staff and a repair crew are onsite undertaking the repair. At this time their is no ETA on completion of the repair. Residents are asked to continue to conserve water whenever possible.
