Garbage Collection

The Town of Aylmer provides residents with weekly curbside collection of waste.

Garbage collection services are provided by Miller Waste Systems. Contact Miller Waste at [email protected] or 519-668-0072 for any garbage related inquiries.

Garbage Regulations

  • Waste must be set to the curb prior to 7 a.m.
  • Each residential unit is permitted a total of three untagged bags of garbage once weekly
  • One of the three untagged bags can be yard waste
  • Additional bags over the untagged bag limit must be tagged
  • There is a weight restriction of 20kg/44lbs per bag

Need a Bag Tag?

Bag tags are available at the following locations in Aylmer:

  • Municipal Office – 46 Talbot Street West
  • Studer’s Variety – 350 John Street South
  • Mobil Gas Station – 657 John Street North

Please note that participating vendors only accept cash payments for bag tag sales.

Bag tags are $2.00 each and do not have an expiry date.

Tags are only required if you exceed the limit as set out in By-Law 21-12 and noted on your Waste Collection Schedule.

Waste Collection Routes

As of January 1, 2017 Town of Aylmer Residents can utilize this facility to dispose of household hazardous and electronic waste. Please review the website for accepted materials and corresponding fees.

The Town of Aylmer has various additional Waste Management Programs to help residents dispose of their waste

Please refer to the Town of Aylmer Waste Management Program Calendar for the dates of all the collection events shown below, and the Town of Aylmer Solid Waste Management By-law 21-12 for full details on each program.

The Town of Aylmer will provide collection of brush twice annually, spring and fall.
• Brush will be picked up on the day prior to your regular garbage day
• Brush must be to the curb prior to 7 a.m. to guarantee it will be collected
• Brush must not exceed 1.4 meters (4.5 feet) in length
• Brush must be tied into bundles

The Town of Aylmer invites residents to participate in a curbside swap event twice annually, spring and fall.

  • Residents are invited to place unwanted items curbside during specified dates to give others the chance to find a new home for your unwanted items.
  • If any items are left on your curbside following the event please find an alternative method for disposal.
  • Materials left at the curb following the event will be subject to bylaw enforcement

The Town of Aylmer provides residents a special collection event for large items once annually

  • This collection event is to dispose of a reasonable amount of household items that are too large to fit into the regular garbage collection stream.
  • Items must be placed at curbside prior to 7 a.m. to ensure collection
  • Items will be picked up on your regularly scheduled garbage day
  • Items must be contained neatly to the curbside to ensure collection
  • For a complete list of acceptable/unacceptable items, rules and regulations please refer to the Town of Aylmer Waste Management By-law 21-12

The Town of Aylmer’s blue box recycling program is now managed by Circular Materials – the administrator of the common collection system and a not-for-profit organization committed to building efficient and effective recycling systems in Ontario.

This transition will result in no change to the materials you can recycle or your collection day.

Additionally, there is no change to the service provider within the Town of Aylmer. Miller Waste will continue to provide pickup services.

Blue boxes are no longer available for purchase at Townhall.

The Town of Aylmer provides a specific drop-off collection depot for Natural Christmas Trees annually following the holiday season.
• The drop off depot is located at 8 Parkview Heights
• Please ensure that the trees, and all other holiday evergreens are free of all decorations

The Town of Aylmer provides the collection of leaves annually each fall

  • It is the Towns preference that residents place leaves into biodegradable bags for curbside collection
  • Bags should not exceed 20kg/44lbs in weight
  • Unlimited number of bags will be collected
  • There is no defined route, several trips will be made throughout the Town during the specified dates of the program

Town of Aylmer has a partnership with the St. Thomas Community Recycling Centre. Aylmer residents are able to dispose of household hazardous substances and electronic waste during operational times of the facility.

The recycling centre is also an option for items that are out of the scope or timeframe of Town of Aylmer special collection events.

  • Yard waste will be picked up the day prior to your regularly scheduled garbage day
  • Yard waste must be placed in biodegradable paper bags
  • Yard waste bags must not exceed 20kg/44lbs

Weekly pick up for both garbage and recycling

Additional blue boxes may be used and can be purchased at your local hardware store.

Please place your address on your blue boxes with permanent marker where indicated.

If you move, please leave your blue box for the next occupant.
