Building permits are required for the construction or alteration of any building occupying an area greater than 15 square metres (161 ft²). Building permits are also required for the construction of:
- decks higher than 24” above grade
- installation/repair of sewer lines
- swimming pool fencing/protection
- additional residential units
- special event tents larger than 60 square metres (645 ft²)
- wall/ground sign structures
A building permit is not required for the following projects:
- property line fences (unless it protects a swimming pool)
- roofing replacement (asphalt shingles, steel roofing)
- exterior siding replacement
- window & door replacement

BizPal is a convenient online service that will help you determine what permits and licenses you need from the Government of Canada, the Ontario Government, and participating local governments including the Town of Aylmer.
Parking in the Town of Aylmer is complimentary for 2 hours.
If you expect your visit to be longer than 2 hours we suggest one of the following options for Municipal Lots 1 & 2 (located directly behind Town Hall and I.D.A.):
- Day Parking Pass $6
- Month Parking Pass $80
- 6 Month Parking Pass $250
- Full Year Parking Pass $460
Passes available for purchase at Town Hall during office hours.
Mon – Fri from 8:00 a.m – 5:00 p.m.
Payment of cash, cheque or debit is accepted.
Parking Permits are for use in Municipal Lots 1 & 2 only. Not for street parking.
Overnight Parking Prohibited
By-law 72-23 states:
No person shall, without authorization of the Chief of Police and/or the Director of Operations, park any vehicle on any street or highway within the Town of Aylmer, between the hours of 3:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m., between November 15th and April 15th inclusive unless specifically authorized within this By-Law.*
*Parking shall be permitted between the hours of 3:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. on the South Side of Anne Street from Caverly Rd to 200.0m Westerly between November 15th and April 15th.
Signage Permit Application
Anyone who would like to put up a sign, refurbish a sign, replace a sign, or even re-face/update the graphics on a sign, needs a sign permit.
It is recommended that you download the form, complete it, and then contact the Town Hall office for submission.
