Aylmer Fire Department and EPCOR’s Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm Campaign for Fire Prevention Week

October 5, 2023

Fire Prevention Week is October 8-14, 2023.

AYLMER, ON –The Aylmer Fire Department and EPCOR have teamed up once again!  This year’s campaign is designed to improve home safety with smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.

The Aylmer Fire Department received combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms through EPCOR for a public education campaign that aims to increase awareness and safety for residents of the town of Aylmer.

Aylmer firefighters will be out in the community October 10 – 12 going door-to-door conducting voluntary residential checks of installed and working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, and while supplies last, firefighters will be handing out free combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms to residents who participate or who would like additional protection for their home.

It is the law that every home in Ontario must have a working smoke alarm on every storey, outside all sleeping areas and recently, in bedrooms of new home construction. Residents must also have installed and working carbon monoxide alarms outside all sleeping areas if their home has a fuel-burning appliance, fireplace or attached garage.

“It’s partnerships like this with EPCOR that allow us to do great things and improve safety in the community, and for that I thank them” says Aylmer Fire Chief, McKone. “Aylmer Fire Department has attended several large residential fires this year, and the facts are, working smoke and co alarms save lives”. Remember, September 28th, 2023, is the Ontario wide date to test your alarms and be “Saved by the Beep”!
